CHAMBER MUSIC MASTER CLASS

Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1

These master classes are for existing quartets, trios, etc. that have a prepared piece. Each chamber music group will be assigned a one-hour time slot on either Friday, September 30 (between 3 pm and 6 pm) or Saturday, October 1 (between 1 pm and 3 pm). During the one-hour time slot, each group will be coached by members of the Cavani

Quartet for half an hour and will observe another group's lesson for the other half hour (or more if desired).

Ensemble classes are open to all violin, viola and cello students ages 7 to 18. The goal of these classes is development of ensemble skills: cueing, phrasing, matching articulations, achieving balance between parts, etc. Students will be coached by members of the Cavani Quartet.

Students will be grouped by instrument and by age. Class size is limited to 30 students. Each class has been assigned specific music to prepare (not memorize). The music for each group is in 2, 3 or 4 parts. Each student may prepare one part (or more if desired). Viola students - please contact your teacher for music.

The Cavani String Quartet is an American string quartet based in Cleveland, Ohio. The group was established in 1984 and has been the Quartet-in-Residence at the Cleveland Institute of Music since 1988. The quartet is named for the 19th century violin makers Giovanni and Vincenzo Cavani.

An irresistible presence on stage, the Quartet concertizes regularly in major series and festivals throughout North America and Europe. They have been featured on National Public Radio's Performance Today and St. Paul Sunday, as well as on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS television.

The Cavani Quartet has established itself as a dynamic leader in the field of Arts in Education. As part of their commitment to education, its members offer many concerts, master classes, workshops and seminars for growing and learning string players.
